Assembly type

Layer resolution

0.40 mm nozzle: 200 to 20 microns

A micron is the measurement used to define the thickness of a 3D printed layer. 20 micron is 0.02 mm thick. Thinner layers are used for high detailed prints, thicker layers are great for fast prototypes.

Build plate

20 ˚C to 100 ˚C heated glass build plate

Thanks to the 20 ˚C to 100 ˚C heated build plate you can use a wide selection of 3D printing materials.

Build plate leveling

Active leveling

The new active leveling system ensures more accurate build plate calibration and better adhesion. The capacitive sensor in the print head measures distances between the build plate and the nozzle, and the tilt angle is compensated by adjusting the z height in the first layers.

Print technology

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)

This is the process of depositing layers of filament, one on top of the other, to build up shapes and models. Also known as additive manufacturing technology, it’s the process used by all Ultimaker 3D printers.

Dual extrusion print head

Thanks to swappable print cores, you can quickly switch between different filaments and material-matching print cores. This results in higher uptime and easier maintenance of your 3D printer.

Print core replacement

Swappable print cores

The Ultimaker 3 comes with swappable print cores with a customized inner nozzle geometry for build (AA) and support (BB) materials. This ensures low nozzle clogging risks, fast changeovers and easy maintenance.

Build speed

0.40 nozzle: up to 16 mm³/s

The build speed relates to how fast the filament can be extruded through the hot end of the 3D printer. The higher the value the greater the achievable print speed.

Print head travel speed

30 to 300 mm/s

Travel speed relates to how quickly the print head can move.

Feeder type

Dual geared feeder

The new dual geared feeders exert more force on the filament, and also eliminate heat exposure from the motor. You can easily insert or remove your 3D printing materials and select the correct pressure with a push on a button.

XYZ accuracy

12.5, 12.5, 2.5 micron

The more accurate the stepper motors within the printer, the greater degree of accuracy can be achieved with each print. Our motors are engineered and tested to achieve the very highest accuracy.

Nozzle diameter

0.4 mm

The swappable print cores mean easy and fast material changeovers, seamless 3D printing experience and more time-efficient workflow. The list of supported material combinations and nozzle sizes will be expanded in the future.

Nozzle temperature

Nozzle heat up time

The nozzle heat up time relates to how fast you can start printing, as well as how fast it can melt the plastic.

An open filament system means you can use any type of 3D printing material that meets your specific requirements.

Filament diameter

2.85 mm

When purchasing filaments for your Ultimaker 2+, you must buy 2.85mm diameter filament – this is the optimal size for your Ultimaker.

The Ultimaker 3 is a highly flexible 3D printer and gives you the freedom to choose whatever type of filament that suits your project. The Ultimaker 3 is optimized for Ultimaker Nylon, PLA, ABS, CPE and PVA with more materials to come.
